Gigi's guide to Formula 1

Welcome to my pit stop, here you'll find everything you need for your car.

New to F1?

But what is formula 1?

Formula 1 is a car racing sport. But overall, it's about strategy, engineering, sportsmanship and a life style!

Every year occurs two championships, the drivers championship(wins the driver with most points accumulated during the season) and the constructors championship(wins the team with biggest sum of points between their both drivers)

In the sport there are multiple teams, each with two drivers, and their goal is to win the most points they can in the season.

In a season(a year) there are 24 Gran Prix. The Grand Prixes are the races. They are distributed along the year and always occur on sundays , but the week and weekend before the race are always very eventful. We call them raceweeks and raceweekends.

How does it work?

Each raceweek follows this schedule:

  • Wednesday: Media day
  • Thursday: Free Practice 1 Free practice sessions allow teams to test and fine-tune their cars before qualifying and the race. There are typically three one-hour practice sessions. During these sessions, teams familiarize themselves with the track, test car setups, and gather data to optimize performance for qualifying and the race.

Why you should love it as well

  1. The engineering!: Aside from being a fisical sport, F1 cars are the most technological cars in the world, and there is so much to learn about them!
  2. The strategy: It's not just a sunday race, it's about the entire week of planning and thinking how they're going to win the next race, and the entire year of thinking how they're going to get the best possible placement in the championship.

As you can see, it is a very fun sport, if you'd like to watch 18 millionaires, 1 billionaire and 1 poor guy running in circles, you might like to see what teams we have

F1 Media

Since F1 is such an incredible sport, there has been made a lot of media about it, here are some of the best:

Ayrton Senna

The best Formula 1 driver of all time!

Ayrton Senna wasn’t just a Formula 1 driver — he was a force of nature. With unmatched precision, fearless speed, and deep passion, he became a three-time world champion and one of the greatest racers the world has ever seen. But beyond the track, Senna was a complex and deeply human figure: spiritual, fiercely competitive, and devoted to helping others. His mysterious intensity, breathtaking wet-weather drives, and tragic death at just 34 left the world in awe — and in tears. To know Senna is to witness brilliance, courage, and a legacy that still inspires. Once you start learning about him, you won’t want to stop.

Curiosities

  • He always had a Brazilian flag hidden in his car in the case he won the race. At the time of his death he had an Austrian flag in his car to commemorate a fellow race car driver Roland Ratzenberger of Austria, who was killed on the same track the day before in a car crash as well.
  • In 2014 a survey conducted by the institute "Datafolha" shows that Ayrton Senna is the biggest idol in the Brazilian sport with 47% of the votes, followed by PelĂ© with 23%.
  • He spoke four languages; besides Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian.
  • To remember the 20 years of Ayrton Senna's death, in 2014 the Maldives Islands launched a series of stamps in honor of him.
  • The world's most famous Brazilian heavy metal band, Sepultura, dedicated the album Roots, released in 1996, to Ayrton Senna.
  • A star of the constellation Auriga receives the name of "Senna" by the International Star Registry.
  • One of the Senna main hobbies was aeromodelling.
  • Born at 2:45 p.m.
  • British musician Chris Rea composed in 1994 a song in honor of the racing driver, named: "Saudade Part 1 and 2".
